Think of a good teacher who not only gives you work to do but is themselves the example you learn from — both the maker of the lesson and the lesson. Valluvar sees rain that way: it grows the food you eat, and as the water you drink, it becomes part of the meal itself.
உருவாக்குவதும், தானே ஆவதும்.
உனக்கு வேலையைத் தருவது மட்டுமின்றி, நீ கற்கும் முன்மாதிரியாகவும் தாமே இருக்கும் ஒரு நல்ல ஆசிரியரை எண்ணிப்பார். பாடத்தை உருவாக்குபவரும் அவரே, பாடமும் அவரே. மழையையும் வள்ளுவர் அப்படியே காண்கிறார்: நீ உண்ணும் உணவை விளைவிப்பதும் அது; குடிநீராய் அந்த உணவின் ஒரு பகுதியாய் அமைவதும் அதுவே.

Two of the body's most basic needs — to be fed and to drink — are met by one and the same source. Valluvar's point is quietly complete: rain doesn't just help with life, it covers life's two simplest demands at once.
பசியும் தாகமும், இரண்டும் தீர்க்கப்படுகின்றன.

Some things give and then step back; the best ones give, and then give themselves too. Rain grows the harvest and is also the very water on your table — a giver that doesn't hold itself apart from the gift.

Rain is both the maker of food and food itself.
Valluvar uses a deliberate play on the word thuppu — 'sustenance' — to say two things at once: rain produces the food that nourishes us, and rain, as water, is itself something we consume. So it answers both hunger and thirst, the body's two plainest needs, from a single source.
Recognise the sources that give twice over.
Some things in your life don't just enable good — they are themselves the good. A parent who provides for you and is also your example; work that pays you and also shapes you. When you find a source like that, treat it with the care it deserves; it is rarer than it looks.
